Our next meeting is 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 16 at Alma Public Library. We have no guest speaker as yet but will keep you posted.

Lincoln Day Dinner

The particulars of our May 21 Lincoln Day Dinner are coming into view, as Chairman John Lemmermann and a few others of us pull everything into place.

Featured speakers will be US Senate candidate John James and State Rep. James Lower. (Others may follow, but that’s who we have for now.) The venue is the Alma Elks Lodge. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with dinner served at 7 p.m. We hope to have silent auction items, but that’s still in the works. Ticket prices have been set at $35 for one and $60 for two. I’ll update later on where you can send checks to. Here’s a short bio of John James.

John E. James is a husband, father, combat veteran and successful businessman. He is a 100% pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, and a pro-business conservative.

At 17, John made the decision to serve his country. James worked his way into, and then graduated from the West Point Military Academy in 2004, and then became a Ranger-qualified aviation officer – piloting Apache helicopters. John went on to serve with distinction in Operation Iraqi Freedom where he logged 753.8 flight hours in theater while leading two Apache platoons.

James earned two Air Medals, an Army Commendation Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, an Iraqi Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, a Global War on Terror Service Medal and an Army Service Medal. His commendations include: Combat Action Badge, the Ranger tab, the Army Aviation badge and the Air Assault Badge.

After serving our nation for over eight years, John James was honorably discharged and returned to Michigan to work in the family business: James Group International – a leading provider in supply chain management, logistics and e-commerce services. Currently its president, James has led the company from $35 million to $137 million in revenue while creating 100 additional jobs in Michigan and around the country since 2012.

John, and his wife Elizabeth reside in Farmington Hills and have two energetic boys. The James boys love spending time with their parents and family members who reside on both sides of the state. The James family enjoys the Michigan outdoors year-round and are active members of Brightmoor Christian Church in Novi.

John James is endorsed by Right to Life of Michigan, the American Conservative Union and the Senate Conservatives Fund. James is the only candidate to sign the Americans for Tax Reform’s Taxpayer protection pledge.
