Following is a draft resolution that we will consider for adoption at the March 14, 2019 meeting.

Resolution of the Gratiot County Republican Party supporting President Trump decision to declare a state of emergency and build a wall on the U.S. – Mexican border.

Whereas, in 2013, the estimated cost of illegal immigration was $113 billion and has risen since.

Whereas, in 2017 and 2018, there were approximately 235,000 illegal immigrants arrested in the U.S, for various crimes including 100,000 on assault charges, 30,000 for sex crimes, and 4,000 for homicide.

Whereas, most illicit drugs in the United States, including heroin, cocaine and Fentanyl are reportedly trafficked illegally from Latin America across the U.S.-Mexico border. The unsafe border is directly connected to over 72,000 drug overdose deaths last year – more than all the U.S. deaths in the Vietnam War.

Therefore we, the elected officers of the Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Gratiot County, Michigan declare the following:

We fully support President Trump’s position on building a wall on the Mexican Border.

Resolved that we, the elected officers of the Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Gratiot County, Michigan further support President Trump decision to declare a State of Emergency, as the Constitution allows him to do, and to build the wall as expeditiously and securely as possible, thus making America safe again.
